Introducing lepoly: the best place to organize, review and share your 3D assets
Back in 2012, we co-founded Sketchfab and grew it into the largest home for 3D on the web: a place where anyone could easily upload a 3D model, view it in a browser, and share it with the world. Building that platform gave us a front-row seat to a problem we never got to fully solve: managing 3D assets at scale and across teams is hard.
If you work with 3D, the pain is probably familiar. Assets are typically scattered across shared drives, Dropbox folders, Slack threads, email attachments… Finding the asset you are looking for is slow and tedious. Is it even the latest approved version? And there's no easy way to see the assets without opening each file in the right tool and waiting for it to load.
It’s already quite painful to find and review 3D assets for people who live in 3D tools. But the bottleneck gets worse when an asset needs to leave the 3D world. Someone from marketing needs a product render. An executive wants to sign off on a new design. Procurement is evaluating what a supplier actually delivered. A client is waiting on an approval. None of them can open an FBX or a glTF file, so everything funnels back through the handful of people who can, and the whole process grinds.
Generic digital asset management tools don't fix this. They were built for images, videos, and documents. They treat a 3D model as just another file to store. But 3D isn't just a file to store. It’s a combination of polygons, geometry, textures, materials, lights, shadows… It's something you need to see, inspect, compare, and collaborate on. That’s why we built lepoly.
lepoly is a web-based digital asset management platform built for 3D content. It runs entirely in the browser and works on any device.
A single source of truth for all your 3D files. lepoly supports every major format out of the box (obj, fbx, glTF, glb, usdz, stl, ply, step, iges, blend and more), so you can consolidate assets from any pipeline into one searchable library. It fits into your existing workflows rather than replacing them.
A realtime 3D viewer and editor, right in the browser. Every asset gets a fully interactive preview. The built-in editor lets you adjust lighting, shadows, orientation, and background so an asset looks exactly right before it goes to a client or stakeholder. You can upload a full folder of assets as a batch, and presets make it easy to automagically define a scene setup for every upload. For heavy files, on-the-fly decimation generates lighter versions for faster previewing and sharing, while keeping the original archive. We also automatically generate different textures resolutions to adapt what to show where.
Review workflows that keep feedback in context. Compare versions side by side with a visual diff, and run design reviews, client approvals, and QA passes inside one place, with a clear record of who said what, and where.
Search by what things actually look like. Instead of relying on filenames, metadata or other manual inputs, lepoly's AI-powered search lets you query assets by their content. Search "red car" and get every red car in your library, no matter how the files were named.
Sharing that's safe by default. Share any asset by link or embed it into a site or internal tool. Granular permissions control who can view, comment, edit, or download, so collaborating with team members, freelancers, partners, or clients never means exposing your whole library.
Open by design. We want lepoly to be open. The 3D world is fragmented, and with open formats maturing and AI reshaping how content gets created and queried, there is no room for another walled garden. Getting content in and out of lepoly should be effortless. We're building APIs and an MCP server so lepoly can plug into your stack, your automations, and your AI tools, so you can shape it around your workflow instead of the other way around.
lepoly is built for two groups who rarely share the same workspace.
The first is 3D designers and technical artists who need a better way to manage, version, and organize their work, plus all sources of 3D content, typically 3D capture and LLMs. The second is everyone else who touches 3D but doesn't live in 3D tools: marketing teams, executives, procurement managers, outsourcing partners, as well as LLMs querying content. By giving both sides a shared, accessible space, lepoly removes the bottleneck that usually sits between the people (and agents) who create 3D assets and the people (and agents) who need to use them.
It works anywhere 3D is central to the product or creative process: footwear, fashion, furniture, automotive, architecture and construction, gaming, VR/AR, luxury goods, industrial design, electronics, museums, education, creative agencies….
We spent years watching teams struggle with 3D files management and sharing. We saw how much value gets lost when a 3D asset can't be found, can't be opened, or can't be trusted. lepoly is the platform we wished existed back then, and we're building it for everyone who's been living with that same friction.
This is just the start. We would love to hear from you about what you like in lepoly and what you’d want to see.
